1/1

The Theatro Circo promotes access for the populations of its territory to a high-quality, diverse and inclusive cultural offering, contributing to the implementation of a cultural policy anchored in the Braga Cultural Strategy 2020-2030.
Strategically and symbolically, it cooperates and establishes partnerships with other entities, building networks that are essential for the development of its objectives.

Since 1986, the Companhia de Teatro de Braga has been the resident company of Theatro Circo, where it continuously develops its artistic project under an agreement with Braga City Council.

Network

Rede de Teatros e Cineteatros Portugueses
Since 2001, Theatro Circo has been part of RTCP, a national network of theatres, cinemas and other cultural facilities that now has more than a hundred accredited entities throughout Portugal (mainland and islands).
Through cooperation between its member entities, the network strengthens the circulation of artistic works, fosters programmatic coordination between facilities, and promotes good practices in digital transition, environmental sustainability, and physical, social, and intellectual inclusion and accessibility.
The most visible tools it has for these purposes are an extensive plan for the enhancement and qualification of human resources and the competitions it has promoted to support programming.
Theatro Circo benefits from RTCP programming support in the 2022-2025 cycle.

Rede de Teatros com Programação Acessível
The Rede de Teatros com Programação Acessível brings together more than a dozen cultural venues that regularly offer shows with audio description and interpretation in Portuguese Sign Language.
This commitment seeks to improve access to its programming for people with visual impairments and the deaf community, as well as their families and friends.
More information and accessible programming available at Accessibility.

Rede Europeia de Teatros Históricos (European Route of Historic Theatres)
In 2015, its centenary year, the Theatro Circo was invited to join the European Route of Historic Theatres. The European Route of Historic Theatres distinguishes and connects, through twelve geographically and touristically strategic routes, the most beautiful, interesting and well-preserved theatres built between the Renaissance period and the early decades of the 20th century. After a careful selection process that evaluated parameters such as the architectural beauty of the theatre, historical relevance and state of preservation, the Theatro Circo was one of four Portuguese and eight Spanish theatres chosen to join the Iberian Route, which was inaugurated on 16 July 2015.
The European Network of Historic Theatres is run by Perspectiv – Association of Historic Theatres in Europe, a non-profit association that was founded in Berlin in 2003 with the aim of raising collective awareness of the importance of theatres as representatives of a cultural heritage common to all Europeans.

Resident Theater Company

Since 1986, CTB – Companhia de Teatro de Braga has been the resident company of Theatro Circo under an agreement with Braga City Council.

Founded in Porto in 1980 and based in Braga since 1984, CTB is one of the most solid projects of theatrical decentralisation to emerge from the democratic process. CTB’s Artistic Project combines an ever-renewed interest in new dramaturgy with experimentation – through our theatrical practice – on humanity’s great dramaturgical legacy: the classics. It develops and deepens its project in the areas of theatrical creation, media arts and audience development. Since its inception, the project has embraced Braga and the Theatro Circo as a place for artistic encounter and confrontation between creators from Europe and the Portuguese-speaking world.

CTB is funded every four years by the Ministry of Culture/DGArtes and the Braga City Council, and its exclusive patron is the dstgroup.
