In the Context cycle, we propose a series of conferences where we take a show from Theatro Circo’s programme as a starting point for conversations between artists and people whose areas of activity intersect with the themes and issues addressed in that work.

On the occasion of the iconic concert by Meredith Monk and her Vocal Ensemble, we will have the privilege of talking to this celebrated American artist who, since the 1960s, has been exploring the voice as an artistic instrument. A pioneer in ‘expanded vocal technique’ and ‘interdisciplinary performance,’ Monk articulates the non-verbal expression of voice, body and movement, creating soundscapes full of kinetic energy, texture and emotional charge.

In this conversation, we will embark on a journey that will take us from her childhood, to her contact with the effervescent context of New York in the 1960s and 1970s, to the present moment, embracing an interdisciplinary practice that crosses various geographies and natures.
