Over the years, Theatro Circo has been working to make both its programming and its space increasingly accessible to all who visit it. To this end, it is part of the Rede de Teatros com Programação Acessível, promoted by Acesso Cultura, regularly offering shows with audio description (AD) and stage recognition and interpretation in Portuguese Sign Language (LGP).
The Theatro Circo is committed to continuing to evolve in order to become an increasingly accessible cultural space for all.
Audio description
Audio description makes performances accessible to people with visual impairments through a live description of the visual content of the play, transmitted through individual headphones, available upon request from the theatre assistance team and/or at the box office.
Before the start of sessions with audio description, there is a stage and/or prop recognition session, which varies in length and usually takes place about an hour before the performance. More details about stage recognition can be found on the individual pages for each performance.
See our accessible programme on this page.
Under the terms of Decree-Law No. 74/2007 of 27 March, assistance animals are allowed, including in the performance halls. They must be identified with a visible badge, and their identification card may be requested.
Portuguese Sign Language
Some shows at Theatro Circo feature Portuguese Sign Language (LGP) interpretation.
Whenever possible, we try to integrate LGP interpretation into the scene in order to ensure the best accessibility and experience for the audience. However, in certain cases, the interpreter may be positioned on one side of the stage, depending on the technical and artistic specifics of the show.
In addition to its regular programme in a wide range of artistic areas, Theatro Circo also offers guided tours with LGP interpretation. For unscheduled guided tours in LGP, interpretation can be requested by emailing theatrocirco@theatrocirco.com.
